PRE-CONTRACT CORRESPONDENCE BETWEEN SIDDELL – GIBSON ARCHITECTS AND LIME WORKS LTD.

I am negotiating with you because:

1. We require a lime specifier who is also the applicator and monitor of the test.

2. It is not recommended that this lime test bay having split responsibilities with three companies – 1. lime specifiier, 2. applicator, and 3. monitoring.

3. For any meaningful result of this test, all three have to be under one umbrella.

4. If split three ways, one of the three has to consult with the other two and meet on site together.

5. This test cannot be done by a general contractor – they rely on a specification by a lime specialist. I am not a lime specialist. They also cannot monitor the test.

6. You are one of four lime specialists that I originally approached but you are the only one who is prepared to do all three elements, ie, specification, application and monitoring.

7. The other three lime specialists I approached were specifiers only. One of these visited the school with Barry and myself.

8. This test has to be a negotiated contract, not by competitive tender.

9. I also know your and Andrew’s background and where you both worked before – it is the person I am looking for, not the company.

10. As you intend working over 30 days, this falls under CDM with a planning supervisor on board and we have four who are interested.

Dear Harry,

Please extend our grateful thanks to Dave and all others who came to do our rendering. They were all very helpful and courteous at all times. We are very pleased with the finished effect. It has brought a lot of positive comments from local people!!

Yours sincerely…Sandy & Gerry Lock

Dear Harry,

Dear Harry

Thank you for transforming Ivy Cottage from a rough, cold uninviting house into one that now sits naturally into the landscape, looks warm, elegant and inviting.

We are very pleased… not only with how it looks, but we really appreciate the skill put in by Dane, Lee, Andy and Dave; further keeping the work area tidy and just a pleasure to have working here.

Yours truly…Virginia Phillips and Paul Smith

LETTER:

FROM A MEMBER OF THE ROEDEAN SCHOOL TEACHING STAFF TO THEIR ESTATES MANAGER, REGARDING THE 70-YEAR PROBLEM OF LEAKING WATER INGRESS WHEN IT RAINED – STOPPED BY HC SPECIFICATION/METHODOLOGY FOLLOWING THE PROVING TRIALS IN 2008.

Paul,

Our department wanted to express our thanks to yourself and to our architect Norman and his team for the evidently excellent work in L6. With the recent extreme gales and rain, not a single drop came through!! And we were watching.

We were all very impressed and grateful.

Thanks,

Angela

FROM ARCHITECT’S REPORT TO THE ESTATES COMMITTEE, FINANCE COMMITTEE AND SCHOOL COUNCIL & OFFICERS. ROEDEAN SCHOOL REPAIRS SUMMER WORKS 2009.

For the future lime works to the remaining principal school buildings, it is recommended that they be continued with Harry Cursham of Lime Works Ltd, as the architect interviewed three lime consultants in May 2006 – a fourth declined – and it was recommended that Harry Cursham be appointed as he was the only lime expert who was both a specifier of materials and also its applicator and supervisor of works on site.
