AUTHENTIC LIME TECHNOLOGY FOR THE MODERN WORLD

Business Innovation Award winners...
Memberships in the crusade for sustainablity…
There is a long and important history of materials sourced and used from quarries in the Cotswolds, which is also the rural Gloucestershire headquarters of Lime Works. So, we were delighted to win this regional County accolade at the very first attempt! This is a major annual competition that invites the best businesses in Gloucestershire to submit entries. The ‘innovation’ category was described as those companies in which a new idea, or novel use of an existing one, have made a significant contribution to their business, whether that was by way of a new product, service or process.
Lime Works are members and contributors to many important associations in the heritage building and restoration industry including:
The Sustainable Building Association
The Sustainable Building Association, was established in 1989 as the AECB (the Association of Environmentally Conscious Builders), to increase awareness in the construction industry of the need to respect the environment. It is a network of individuals and companies with the common aim of promoting sustainable building. It brings together builders, architects, designers, manufacturers, housing associations and local authorities – to develop, share and promote best practice in environmentally sustainable building. The AECB's standards and advice are founded on a detailed and realistic understanding of the performance of buildings, constructed and refurbished in the real world, for real users
The Building Limes Forum
The Building Limes Forum exists to encourage expertise and understanding in the appropriate use of building limes and education in the standards of production, preparation, application and after-care. It is a charitable organisation with no commercial ties and has about 350 members in the UK and overseas, the majority being actively concerned with the repair of historic buildings or in the use of lime in new build.
The Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings
The Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings (SPAB) is involved in all aspects of the survival of buildings which are old and interesting. Their principal concern is the nature of their "restoration" or "repair", because misguided work can be extremely destructive. To the society, the skill lies in mending our old buildings with the minimum loss of fabric and so of romance and authenticity. Old buildings cannot be preserved by making them new.
National Heritage Training Academy
We have been also been heavily involved with the National Heritage Training Group (NHTA) which is an independent specialist sector skills development group, with a UK-wide remit to provide assistance with all aspects of recruiting, training, and qualifying the built heritage sector workforce of the construction industry. This is achieved by working in partnership with clients, heritage bodies, contractors, Trade Federations, Trades Unions and FE and private training providers to develop flexible training and skills development, to ensure we have sufficiently skilled craftspeople to work on our UK historic building stock.
